Why exfoliation is the key to radiant skin

Becoming a grandparent for the very first time can be magical, scary, fun… and at times overwhelming. Here’s how to make the transition with ease.

It’s the skincare secret all women with glowing skin know about…

From improving your diet to exercising regularly, there are a number of lifestyle changes you can make to boost your skin’s luminosity and achieve a radiant complexion.

But one of the simplest and most important is to exfoliate regularly. It can be easily built into your regular beauty routine and the results will be reward enough for any extra time spent. Here’s what you need to know…

What is exfoliation?

Your skin is constantly shedding dead cells from its surface, renewing itself with fresh, healthy cells from within. Approximately 35,000-40,000 cells are discarded naturally every minute, but sometimes that’s just not enough to reveal a glow, so it’s smart to give nature a helping hand by manually sloughing away the superfluous cells.

Why is exfoliation so important?

If you have an excess of dead cells sitting on the surface of the skin, it can block pores and lead to blackheads, pimples or acne. Skin will appear dull and lifeless.

This also means moisturiser, serums and other treatment products will be less effective, as they can’t be easily absorbed into the active cells below.

How to exfoliate your face

Facial scrubs are a great way of sloughing away dead skin cells. However, the skin on your face is delicate, so you should opt for a gentle scrub with beads rather than scratchy seeds.

Another great way to exfoliate is with the Olay Regenerist 3-Point Super Cleansing System, which includes a high-frequency battery-operated brush that is both gentle and effective at doing away with old skin cells. The result is a complexion that looks fresher instantly and becomes smoother and noticeably healthier over time.

You should exfoliate your face no more than twice a week.

How to exfoliate your body

It’s easy to forget to care for your skin when it’s wrapped in layers of cosy clothes all winter. But now that spring is here, it’s the perfect time to give your body a boost for warmer days ahead.

Lower necklines, short sleeves and bare legs all mean more flesh is on show, and the combination of freezing temperatures and central heating will have taken their toll on skin over recent months.

For optimum results, use an exfoliating body brush in circular motions on dry skin before you get in the shower, then use an exfoliating shower wash with built-in moisturisers to leave your skin fresh and glowing with health when you step out.

Just as it does on the face, body exfoliation rejuvenates your skin, revealing new cells and a healthy glow. Plus it primes the body for everything, from hydrating body creams and fake tans to hair removal treatments, so you’ll achieve much better results using them on exfoliated skin.
