The Best Skincare tips for the Winter Months

These 8 winter skincare tips help rid dry skin & boost your skins health this winter

Is there anything nicer than warming yourself by a hot stove after a long walk in the cold winter air? But the epitome of comfort for us is sheer misery for our skin. It can become dry or even chapped as a result. By following the practical skincare tips by Victoria you can make sure that this doesn't happen to you.

Tips for indoors

  • Use only lukewarm water when you shower and remember that if you stand for too long in the relaxing water, your skin will be stripped of the vital moisture it needs. It's fine to take a bath now and then. But it shouldn't be any hotter than 35°C and you shouldn't stay in it any longer than 15 minutes. Use a rich body lotion afterwards and massage it well into the skin.
  • Are your elbows and knees particularly rough and scaly? Mix two tablespoons of sugar with one tablespoon of jojoba oil and gently exfoliate your skin.
  • Dry air from central heating doesn't do your skin any favours. Make sure that the humidity in your room is between 40% and 60% and air the room briefly every two hours. Either use a humidifier or natural alternatives such as cypress grass or African hemp.
  • Do not use a toner that contains alcohol because this dries out the skin. Always choose gentle varieties. A night cream that keeps the skin silky smooth is ideal, such as Olay Total Effects Firming Night Cream. Products that contain glycerine and niacinamide are ideal for caring for your skin, as these ingredients provide moisture and strengthen your natural barriers.

Tips for outdoors

  • Even if it's cold and miserable outdoors: go for a brisk walk in the fresh air at least once every day. This will provide your skin with the oxygen it needs and also aid the circulation.
  • In winter your skin needs extra moisture and must still be protected against the sun's harmful rays. This is particularly important when there's snow on the ground, as this reflects the sunlight. Therefore you should always wear a moisturising cream with UV factor 15 such as Olay Total Effects Day Care with UV Protection.
  • Protect your skin with a hat, scarf and gloves.
  • On particularly sunny or windy days sports sunglasses are recommended. Why? On the one hand they protect the sensitive parts of the eye, and on the other hand they prevent increased squinting, which leads to wrinkles in the long term.
